(Kiss with Honda 1989)
I never realized how prominently cars featured in Canadian artist Alex Colville's artwork until I went to the National Gallery of Canada yesterday.
I have been mulling (for years, embarrassingly) how to warm up the decor in my apartment. I'm now thinking some Colville prints would be a great show of both Canadiana and my interest in motorized conveyances.
This one was the catalyst for my interest, titled "Traveler", from 1992 (apologies for the picture quality)...
It's gorgeous. The mirror obscuring the pedestrian/hitchhiker's face is wonderfully jarring. Oh, and welcome to my drive, most days in the winter. (bonus points if you can identify the car in this painting - edit, " !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! " got it ... looks like a type 964 Porsche 911, one of several Porsches Mr. Colville owned.)
Random "six degrees of separation" moment: my best friend has been good friends with Alex Colville's grand-daughter since they were kids. Small world.

You know, I actually didn't know what it was but on doing a bit more sleuthing, I think you may be right. See this reference: http://thechronicleherald.ca/opinion/124502…
He painted his own cars — such as a Mini Cooper, Smart car and Honda. But in fact he also owned — and sold — three Porsches, two BMWs and six Mercedes-Benzes. On the day we went to lunch, he drove a bright blue Audi Quattro turbo-charged two-seater coupe.
So it looks like he did own Porsches, did paint them and the year of that painting (1992) would coincide with a 964 911!
Gold star!
